Biography
Dr James Durl is a behavioural scientist and award-winning researcher dedicated to using the power of marketing for good. Originally on track to become an accountant, James' career took a transformative turn when he discovered his interest in understanding human behaviour and the ways modern media can influence it.
This curiosity led him to behavioural science and social marketing — the disciplines of understanding how people think and act and using marketing tools to foster positive societal change. By the age of 25, James had earned his PhD, a milestone that marked years of dedication to helping young people critically navigate harmful behaviours and deceptive business practices.
James has become a leading voice in tackling some of the most pressing challenges young people face today, focusing on the dangers of vaping, alcohol, and cannabis. With a sharp focus on dismantling the harmful tactics of industries like Big Tobacco, he designs innovative services and resources that empower schools, parents, and communities to build resilience against these harms.
In 2025, James continues to expand his efforts to address not only the vaping epidemic but also the role of alcohol and cannabis in shaping youth behaviours and community health. Through his research, speaking engagements, and educational initiatives, he equips educators, parents, and community leaders with practical strategies to combat these challenges.
