Biography
Sam is the Athletic Development Coordinator at St Josephs College, Geelong. He believes offering environments that offer positive experiences towards resistance training, with opportunities for students to explore and 'play' in a sense, is crucial to lifelong participation and enjoyment of resistance training, and wider physical activity. Whilst developmentally appropriate progressions are key (according to biological age and physical competency milestones), a degree of freedom outside of rigid progressional structures can be appropriate, especially when training adolescents outside of athlete-inclined cohorts (e.g. regular PE).
Sam holds both a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science and a Master of Strength and Conditioning from Federation University, and is an ESSA-accredited Exercise Scientist and a level 2 ‘Professional’ Strength and Conditioning Coach with the ASCA.
Having been involved with a number of high schools in the Western Victorian region, Sam is continuing to have success in developing and implementing resistance training and physical testing units within high school athletic development programs. Blending strength and conditioning principles and traditional Physical Education Pedagogy, Sam hopes to continue to enhance the practice of school-based youth athletic development through research conducted as part of his PhD studies.
