A practical session demonstrating how to effectively and safely implement resistance training into year 9/10 Physical Education curriculum. Sessions of this kind can be incredibly engaging for students who tend to opt out of ‘traditional’ physical education. Many students participate in resistance training externally to the school, and so provides an opportunity to guide behaviours, perceptions and opinions regarding resistance training, and physical activity in general. The session is ideal as an introduction for students to resistance training using external load.
We cover strategies to coach the 'big 3' resistance training exercises: the squat, bench press and deadlift using a combination of teacher-led and student-led learning (otherwise called constraints-based learning).
Contains technique and coaching cues, benefits of adolescent training, dispels myths surrounding youth resistance training, and progressions/ regressions to tailor for differing student ability.
Participants will be able to:
-identify and explain the importance of major sprinting technique points.
-Set up and run simple activities to develop sprint technique in junior high school students.
-Use coaching cues to identify and remedy poor sprint technique.
-Identify major techniques of evasive agility and practice their use.
-Use additional activities to add variety or progress sprint technique development
