This session explores the growing intersection between sport science, education and technology, using SportMatch as a case study in how data-driven experiences can empower students while supporting broader talent identification outcomes. Developed by SportMatch, the platform is used across Australia and internationally to assess, track and support athlete development. It has been adopted by organisations including the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI), Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS), AFL clubs and international institutes to guide athletes into the most appropriate sporting pathways.
In collaboration with SASI and the University of South Australia (UniSA), recent testing sessions for school groups visiting elite training environments have delivered outstanding feedback. Students engaged with the SportMatch platform to view, track and interpret their own performance data in ways they had never experienced before. Schools have since integrated the data into classroom learning, using it to discuss training principles, sport suitability and performance trends.
This session will demonstrate how educators can harness performance data and emerging technologies—like SportMatch’s soon-to-be-released automated video capture testing—to promote physical literacy, improve curriculum delivery, and help students better understand their own movement potential. We’ll also explore the role schools can play in early talent identification and development through simple, scalable partnerships with universities and sporting institutes.
