Biography
Kevin is a Professor in Sport and Exercise Science at UNSW, Sydney with a 40+ year career in academia.
His research focuses on the evolution of sports and performance, health risk factor assessments, concussion and injury risk in sport, and talent ID systems.
He has developed numerous educational and professional software programs for health, sport applications, and talent ID including SportMatch – a recent and relevant development - used in the largest talent ID search in Australia’s history (‘Youfor2032’ in Qld), and in SASI talent testing as well as by numerous sporting codes, clubs, schools, and international countries. Kevin has been a Board member of AUSactive, the Scientific Committee of Sports Medicine Australia, served on the Standards Committee and Chaired two rounds of Pre-Exercise Screening development for AUSactive, ESSA and SMA. He was a lead in developing the Australian accreditation system for anthropometry in the 1990’s and subsequently adopted by ISAK globally. Kevin has published over 240 research papers and several books. His research has been supported by organisations including the International Olympic Committee, Australian Sports Commission, Australia’s National Health and Medical Research Council, and International Governments. He has had consultancies and contributed professionally over many years with governing sporting bodies including the AFL, NRL, European SL, IRB, FIFA and ARU focusing on game evolution, sport science applications, and game styles and injury interactions. Kevin is a strong advocate for the role of physical fitness in health and physical literacy promotion.
