Description

How can we design HPE lessons that build strong relationships, support student wellbeing and encourage active participation? This session will explore how squash can be used to develop movement skills, social awareness and a positive connection to physical activity.

Based on the nationally funded Squash Stars program, the session will share practical teaching strategies that use a game-based approach to support personal and social capabilities. It will show how to adapt activities using TPSR and provide ideas for questioning, feedback and reflection that help students understand themselves and others through play.

Participants will learn how to create inclusive and engaging learning environments that respond to the needs of all students. The session will also highlight the role of sport in building connections with families and the broader school community, with a focus on squash as a sport that supports participation across all ages and abilities.

This session links closely to the Connect and Move themes, offering classroom-ready activities and approaches that support both physical and social development. It will include examples from school and community settings and provide ideas that teachers can easily apply in their own programs.

Whether you are looking to strengthen student relationships, try a new sport or make your lessons more inclusive and engaging, this session will give you practical tools and approaches to support student learning and enjoyment.
