Date & Time

Description

This interactive workshop explores how striking and fielding games can be a powerful platform for embedding formative assessment and meaningful feedback strategies in Health and Physical Education for secondary students in Years 7 to 10. In alignment with the ACHPER conference theme "Move, Connect, Grow," the session demonstrates how movement-rich, game-based learning can foster deeper student engagement, promote personal growth, and strengthen the teacher-student connection.

Participants will actively engage in a series of modified striking and fielding games that create clear and purposeful opportunities for giving and receiving feedback. The focus will be on formative assessment tools that are practical, student-friendly, and easily integrated into existing units, such as self and peer-assessment templates, success criteria, and frameworks like WWW/EBI and TAG.

The session will model how to build a feedback-rich learning environment where reflection, communication, and student ownership of learning are central to performance improvement. Educators will explore how strategic questioning, observation, and in-the-moment feedback can be used without disrupting the natural flow of a lesson.

This session is designed for secondary HPE teachers seeking ways to make assessment more meaningful, inclusive, and growth-focused. Attendees will leave with a bank of adaptable feedback strategies and ready-to-use tools that enhance learning outcomes through striking and fielding games, while also building strong classroom relationships rooted in trust and communication.
