Healthy Places, Healthy Futures: A Whole-School Approach to Physical Activity and Movement

Session Description

This interactive workshop explores the Healthy Places Physical Activity and Movement Action Guide and how it supports schools to bring health, wellbeing and learning together through a clear, coordinated approach. Schools are already doing a great deal to support student health and wellbeing. Healthy Places builds on these existing strengths by bringing activities together under one effective framework, making them easier to plan, manage and sustain for lasting benefits. It provides easy-to-follow action guides, a clear process and tailored support to help schools confidently identify practical next steps. Aligned with the conference theme, Leading Active Futures: Thriving Through Movement, this session focuses on the Physical Activity and Movement health and wellbeing priority and its role in supporting health, wellbeing and learning. Participants will explore how a whole-school approach strengthens practice across Leadership and Commitment, Teaching and Learning, Physical Environment, Culture, Staff Wellbeing, and Families and Community Engagement, bringing physical activity and movement into everyday school life. Through practical examples and facilitated discussion, the session will demonstrate how Healthy Places aligns with existing requirements such as curriculum, Active Schools initiatives and broader wellbeing approaches. It highlights how schools can make progress using a clear and repeatable process, without adding unnecessary workload. Participants will leave with greater clarity and confidence in how to use the Healthy Places framework and action guides to take achievable steps towards active, inclusive and thriving school communities for learning and life.
