What if Rugby League could be one of the most effective contexts for teaching game understanding, decision-making and movement skills?
Session Description
This session explores how Rugby League can be used to bring contemporary pedagogical approaches such as Game Sense, constraints-led learning and representative practice to life. Participants will experience how these approaches shift the focus from isolated skill drills to engaging game-based environments where students learn through exploration, problem-solving and purposeful play.
Drawing on emerging practice from the NRL's education initiatives, this session demonstrates how thoughtful game design and the manipulation of constraints can enhance engagement, increase participation and support skill development across a wide range of abilities. Participants will explore how modifying space, rules, numbers and equipment can create learning environments that encourage perception-action coupling, tactical awareness and more meaningful transfer of learning to game situations.
Attendees will leave with practical strategies, adaptable games and fresh ideas for designing learning experiences that use Rugby League as a vehicle for developing game understanding, movement competence and confident decision-makers through play.
