Session Description
How often do our students walk into the Year 12 exam having "studied" for weeks, only to find that everything they revised has vanished under pressure? This session challenges the cramming culture head-on and offers a smarter, more sustainable way forward. Focusing on Year 12 Health and Human Development, this session is built around a simple but powerful idea: that great exam results aren't built in the weeks before the exam. They're built across the year through deliberate, consistent learning habits. Rather than waiting until students are overwhelmed in the lead-up to their exam, we can equip them with the tools they need from the very beginning of the course. We'll explore the science of learning and how memory actually works, and what that means for the way we teach. Drawing on evidence-based research, participants will unpack practical retention strategies including spaced repetition, retrieval practice, interleaving, and elaborative interrogation, and look at how these can be meaningfully embedded across the Year 12 HHD course from the outset.
