Biography
Matt’s rowing journey began in his secondary school years, where his talent quickly stood out. In 2002, he earned selection to his first Australian team and went on to win gold in the coxed four at the World Junior (U19) Championships. Advancing through the ranks from schoolboy to senior level, Matt represented Australia from 2005 to 2015, competing at multiple World Championships and two Olympic Games. He claimed a silver medal in the men’s four at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and finished sixth in the men’s eight at the 2012 London Olympics.
Following his retirement from elite competition, Matt transitioned into coaching, applying his extensive experience and technical insight to developing athletes. He now serves as Head Coach at Wesley College and at Melbourne University Boat Club, one of Victoria’s two designated Pathway rowing clubs.
