Dr Frank Hughes is a Clinical Psychologist who works with the Older Peoples Mental Health
Service in the South West Sydney Local Health District. Having graduated with honours in
psychology, he has worked as a Psychologist and Clinical Psychologist since 1970.
Subsequent studies led to the awards of MSc (Clinical Psychology) in 1978, and PhD in 1994.
His doctoral studies were on the topic pain in dependent old people. He has substantial
experience working in mental health, especially the mental health of older people. He has
completed advanced training in the Gestalt Approach and he is an experienced
psychotherapist who combines existential and behavioural approaches. He continues in
fulltime work, learning more each year. His current interests include the nature and
functions of schema, and the implications for therapy of allostatic burden.
