Ageing well, longevity and social context
Presentation Format
Habitually, our lack of human decency, bred by prejudicial assumptions, affect how we treat people, thus depriving them of basic biopsychosocial needs, which are inherently based on compassion and empathy.
These dehumanising attitudes are often a significant source instigating intense suffering within the lives of people living with dementia (PLWD).
Such arrogant heartlessness, may ghettoize and isolate PLWD, destroying quality of life.
Henceforth, if we truly understand the reality, and personal truth of every PLWD, we might profoundly influence their lives positively, minimising core suffering, loneliness, and inner emotional pain from occurring.
Person-centred care is a basic human right, encouraging intensified awareness committed to the development of personalised initiatives, whilst acknowledging the preeminent need to develop support that celebrates each PLWD’s uniqueness and diversity.
It must be projected that the compelling factor here is, 'going without should not be an option’.
It is paramount we highlight what are considered the principal essentials to a fulfilling, stimulating, and reverential existence, upholding the essence of ‘living well’, promoting ‘positive ageing’, whilst endorsing ‘health and wellbeing’.
The objective should critique isolation and loneliness, and provide compassionate fidelity through:
• Facilitating the ‘golden years’
• Personalised, holistic support
• Respecting diversity
• Meaningful engagement, purpose and control
• Community and culture change
• A robust humane philosophy and strengthened framework
Let us follow an ethos strongly supporting and valuing the voices of PLWD, when they clearly convey what they need to sustain their personal and distinctive sense of identity.
Advocate and provide a voice of strength for the empathy revolution!!
