Shawgat’s research focuses on accounting education, accountability and governance, and the impact of emerging technologies on the accounting profession. She has extensive experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methods and has published in high-ranking academic journals. Shawgat is particularly interested in innovative assessment design, including the use of interactive oral assessments and generative AI to enhance student learning and uphold academic integrity. She has also supervised doctoral research in areas such as Indigenous not-for-profit accountability and actively engages with industry and education stakeholders across Australia and New Zealand.
