5C Building Equality and Respect Through Movement and Sport
Description

Sport, movement and physical education are powerful settings for shaping young people's attitudes about gender equality, leadership, respect and belonging. This interactive session will introduce delegates to the foundations of primary prevention, exploring the evidence that gender inequality drives gender-based violence and the role educators, coaches and sporting organisations play in shaping positive social norms.

Drawing on evidence-based prevention approaches, delegates will examine how everyday decisions in sport and HPE can either reinforce or challenge rigid gender stereotypes and unequal gender norms. Delegates will leave with practical strategies to foster more inclusive, equitable and respectful environments where all young people can participate, belong and thrive.
