Sam is an educator based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa (Auckland, New Zealand) working in a health school context with young people whose access to learning is disrupted by health and complex life circumstances. She has experience across secondary teaching, curriculum leadership, learning support, transition-focused education and senior leadership.
Sam has been leading practical, values-based work on the ethical use of generative AI in education. This includes developing staff guidance, scenario-based professional learning, and professional dialogue to help educators use GenAI in ways that strengthen connection, support teacher capacity and protect student dignity. Her work is grounded in the belief that AI should support, not replace, the deeply human work of education: relationship, care, contextual understanding and professional judgement.
