Biography
Angela Kristenson is the Deputy Principal responsible for Student Engagement and Guidance Services at Queensland Children’s Hospital School (QCHS), where she leads statewide approaches to student engagement, wellbeing, multidisciplinary collaboration, and educational continuity for children and young people with complex medical and mental health needs.
Angela brings extensive experience in guidance, counselling, behaviour support, and educational leadership. Prior to her current role, she worked for more than eight years as the Guidance Officer at QCHS, where she played a pivotal role in developing and sustaining collaborative partnerships between health professionals, educators, community services, students, and families. Through this work, she supported coordinated, wraparound approaches that enabled young people to remain connected to learning while navigating significant health and wellbeing challenges.
Before joining the hospital school, Angela worked as a Guidance Officer in Intensive Behaviour Support, leading complex case management, positive behaviour support planning, and multidisciplinary interventions across a range of educational settings. Earlier in her career, she worked as an Early Childhood teacher, establishing a strong foundation in child development, learning, inclusion, and the importance of positive relationships in supporting educational success.
Angela’s professional interests include trauma-informed practice, student engagement, school transitions, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the development of systems that support continuity of learning and wellbeing for vulnerable learners. Her work is grounded in the belief that education can be a powerful protective and equalising factor, providing stability, connection, and opportunity for children and young people experiencing significant disruption in their lives.
