Dr Wilda Laux is a secondary school teacher and research fellow based in Aotearoa New Zealand, currently teaching at Northern Health School and working with the University of Auckland’s Department of Molecular Medicine and Pathology. In addition to her Graduate Diploma in Teaching (secondary), she holds a PhD in Biotechnology (Ophthalmology) and a postgraduate Diploma in Education with specialism in counselling and guidance.
Wilda brings extensive experience across secondary and tertiary education, including roles in genomics outreach and teacher professional development nationwide. In her capacity of Leader of Pasifika cultures at the Northern Health School, her work focusses on designing culturally grounded, inclusive learning experiences that support student engagement, particularly for learners experiencing disruption due to chronic illness or mental health challenges.
She is committed to strengthening culturally responsive practice, with a particular emphasis on Pacific and Māori learners, and works in partnership with communities to ensure authenticity and meaningful representation.
Wilda’s work integrates cross-curricular teaching practices, wellbeing, and identity, reflecting her passion for equitable education, student belonging, and empowering both learners and educators.
