Activities With Purpose: Linking Practical Tasks to Unit Requirements in Sport & Recreation

Session Description

"Can we do prac today?" How often do Sport & Rec teachers hear that question! It would be easy to say yes and run a fun activity every time. It's harder to ensure that your prac choices genuinely connect to a unit of competency, where students are developing the right skills, in the right context. This session explores how to design practical classroom activities that are engaging for students and clearly linked to unit requirements. We'll start with a simple framework for connecting an activity concept to specific unit components, so you can move beyond "this is a good activity" to "this is the right activity for this unit." You'll then participate in an activity. We'll debrief together and unpack how it connects to key concepts. Whether you're building activities from scratch or looking to strengthen the connection between what you already run and what the unit actually requires, you'll leave with a practical approach you can apply immediately. This session is relevant to trainers delivering across the Sport & Recreation and Sport Coaching qualifications.
