Harmful ideologies and behaviours are showing up in our classrooms. Join us for this session in discussing how we might navigate conversations safely and constructively, facilitating healthy discussions and addressing problematic attitudes in and out of the classroom. Connect with peers to discuss how these ideas are presenting in different schools and settings. Using interactive activities, we will explore how gender perceptions influence student interaction and engagement and how language and the media influence students’ belief and behaviours. Sporting teams can be high-risk spaces where harmful ideologies manifest, diet culture and body image can be amplified and body-focused comments in PE settings can reinforce harmful gender norms. Take strategies and ideas back to your school around whole school, classroom and individual responses to this emerging and ongoing work.
