Sport Meets STEM: Creating New Pathways for Girls Through Data, Technology and Movement
Session Description
Sport has the power to do more than improve physical health and wellbeing. It can also open doors to future pathways in STEM, leadership, innovation and lifelong engagement in active communities.
As participation rates among adolescent girls continue to decline, schools are increasingly seeking new ways to connect movement experiences with relevance, purpose and future opportunities. This session explores how sport can be used as a vehicle to build data literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving and career awareness while strengthening girls’ connection to physical activity.
Drawing on practical examples from school and community settings, participants will discover how technology, athlete testing, wearable devices, performance data, artificial intelligence and sport-based challenges can be integrated into Health and Physical Education programs to create engaging and inclusive learning experiences. The session will also highlight the wide range of roles available within the sporting ecosystem beyond playing, including coaching, officiating, sports science, performance analysis, media, event management and technology.
Attendees will gain insight into how schools can use movement and data to increase student engagement, support wellbeing, foster belonging and expose girls to emerging opportunities in sport and STEM-related fields.
Through interactive examples, case studies and practical implementation strategies, participants will leave with ideas they can adapt immediately within their own school context, helping students see sport not only as something they do, but as a pathway to who they can become.
