Students as coaches: Using peer coaching to build leadership, learning and engagement
Session Description
Coaching is often associated with sport teams and extracurricular programs. Yet coaching principles can also be powerful teaching tools that enhance student learning, engagement and leadership within Health and Physical Education.
This workshop explores how peer coaching can be used to strengthen communication, reflection, feedback, collaboration and student ownership of learning. Drawing on the Australian Coaching Capability Framework, participants will explore practical approaches that position students as active contributors to learning rather than passive recipients of instruction. The workshop aligns strongly with the Coaching Action Plan pillar ‘Coaching starts with people’, recognising that meaningful learning and development begin with relationships, connection and shared ownership.
