Speedminton – Fair Dinkum Racket Sport Fun
Session Description
Delivering successful school racket sport outcomes is difficult. Not all schools have the facilities for full class involvement and coaching the grip and shot making entail heightened technical elements.
Speedminton’s new format has allowed 5000 Australian schools to re-configure or, in many cases, introduce for the first time, a program that teaches the fundamental striking skill and engages students of various age and skill levels in a fun racket sport program.
The session will explain the flexibility of the equipment. The rules and set up of competitive Speedminton® will be discussed, as will the variations that adapt to school facilities, and the student’s capabilities and enthusiasm levels. These modifications are key to Speedminton’s success, maximising participation, inclusion and ultra-high levels of engagement.
Moving beyond the confines of a designated court space opens a vast array of skill building games and drills that this freedom creates. Most involve hitting the Speeder, building hand/eye co-ordination, confidence and rallies. Students quickly discover the activities that are challenging and enjoyable. Competitive play is an option, but does not define the experience.
Most importantly, session attendees will enjoy a high paced, fun filled racket sport escapade: bring your sports shoes and lots of energy!
Learning Outcomes
With Physical Education veering towards more co-operative, skill acquisition and engagement type activities, Speedminton® is ahead of the curve.
Racket sport learning in open areas allow students the space and time to grasp the fundamental striking movement. Eliminating the fear of error, instils a freedom of movement and invites imaginative game creation and skill challenges. Speedminton® offers a complete, flexible racket sport program, that maximises fun and participation levels.
The revised Teachers Guide will be examined and sample rubrics, lesson plans and game progressions explored.
