Xiaojing Lei is a PhD candidate in the School of Psychological Sciences at Macquarie University. Her research investigates the influence of social media on mental health across the lifespan, with a focus on how specific use motives—such as status-seeking, relational bonding, and escapism—differentially impact younger and older adults. She uses a three-part design comprising cross-sectional surveys, Experience Sampling Method (ESM), and longitudinal tracking to examine the behavioural mechanisms that foster digital resilience in older adults versus psychological vulnerability in youth, contributing to broader conversations in gerontology, cyber-psychology, and digital health. Xiaojing holds a Master of Research degree from Macquarie University.
