Dr Maryam Ghahramani is a Senior Lecturer and the Program Director of Engineering at the University of Canberra. She completed her PhD at the University of Wollongong, where she studied how changes in walking and movement can help identify the risk of falls in older adults.
Her work combines health and technology, with research focusing on dementia, Parkinson’s disease, ageing, balance, and pain assessment. She uses simple sensors and computer-based tools to understand changes in movement and balance, and to explore how these changes can support early detection, guide rehabilitation, and help people stay safe and independent.
Maryam is strongly committed to research that supports people living with dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and age-related conditions, as well as the families and carers who walk alongside them.
