Mark is Professor of General Practice at the University of Liverpool, visiting Doris Young Professor of General Practice at the University of Melbourne (2025-6) and Director of the National Institute of Health and Care Research, Applied Research Collaboration, North West Coast (ARCNWC). He is a mixed methods researcher with a focus on health inequalities, primary care, dementia, complex interventions etc. The ARC NWC includes over 80 partner organisations, and has been in place since 2014, recently reviewed until 2031. It includes all the regional hospitals, 13 local authorities, 5 Universities, primary care, community care, social and home care providers etc. It embeds co-production, public involvement and equity across all areas of work. Mark also works as a GP, and teaches under and postgraduates.
