Jiv Matthews is a Senior Aboriginal Project Officer – Partnership, Planning and Strategy with the Office of the Executive Director Aboriginal Health at Western Sydney Local Health District. He holds a Bachelor of Nursing and a Master of Health Leadership and Management from UNSW.
Jiv has experience across executive and operational health settings, having completed the NSW Health Management Internship Program with rotations spanning clinical services, finance, community health, and executive leadership. His work focuses on strengthening Aboriginal health outcomes through system-level reform, cultural governance, and strategic planning.
His current portfolio includes the development of district-wide Aboriginal health governance structures, culturally informed policy and procedure reform, and strategic initiatives to improve access and equity for Aboriginal communities.
Jiv’s research interests centre on cultural safety and end-of-life care. His recent mixed-methods study explores the role of smoking ceremonies in hospital settings as a model of culturally safe, patient-centred care for Aboriginal people.
