Population ageing is reshaping labour markets globally, yet older workers remain underutilised due to persistent structural, organisational, and cultural barriers. This creates urgent challenges and opportunities for employers, governments, and industries. This presentation examines how international standards, specifically 'ISO 25550:2022 Ageing societies — General requirements and guidelines for an age-inclusive workforce’ can support the recruitment, retention, and inclusion of older workers while sustaining productivity, job quality, and workforce participation across longer working lives. The standard provides practical guidance and a global roadmap for repositioning ageing populations from a workforce risk to a strategic asset. The paper outlines the business and policy rationale underpinning the standard and presents current national uptake globally. It provides an overview of the standard and introduces a Global Ageing Workforce Ecosystem Model, positioning older adults as contributors across employment, market innovation, and community participation. The role of meaningful work and social prescribing in addressing loneliness, strengthening social connection, and enhancing productivity outcomes is also explored. Practical insights are drawn from international examples, including Japan’s seniorpreneurship initiatives, Kenya’s workforce strategies, and Israel’s knowledge economy. The presentation concludes with approaches to measuring impact, including social and financial indicators, and alignment with broader human capital metrics. Audience: This presentation is designed for policymakers, government representatives, unions, industry representatives, senior management, and researchers, as well as those involved in implementing or evaluating initiatives to support older workers and extend workforce participation.
